A donation of £200 from Esso Petroleum and ExxonMobil Chemical at Fawley Refinery has enabled Spring cleaning to get off to a good start at the Sholing Valleys Study Centre in Southampton.
The money has been used by volunteers who manage the environmental study centre near Miller's Pond to purchase a new vacuum cleaner.
The Chairman, Chris Fry, said, "We are very proud of our recently refurbished study centre which is at the heart of a five-acre site covering the Miller's Pond Wildlife Area and surrounding woods and meadows.
The Centre offers groups, schools and individuals an opportunity to find out about the natural environment, participate in conservation and nature study projects, and to play an active part in caring for the area.
We are lucky enough to receive support from several local businesses, and we were grateful when ExxonMobil also agreed to help us.
The new cleaner will help us to keep things tidy for our visitors."
Carol Dunford of ExxonMobil Community Affairs visited the Centre to present the vacuum cleaner.
She said, "I was very impressed with the facilities and range of activities available to the local community at Sholing Valleys and the dedication of the team of volunteers."
