Afternoon Walk

Distance: 1.5km /1 mile,  20 minutes
Condition: Good, mostly pavements/tarmac, unsurfaced paths may become muddy after heavy rain
Starting Point: Church lane, Fawley

 

The route

  • Start at the footpath in church lane. Follow the footpath to the church and proceed into the church yard, turn right and continue along path.
  • After passing through the kissing gate turn left. Follow the path bearing left at fork until reaching the road, turn right.
  • Take the first left along Copthorne Lane and follow the road around until you reach the junction of Ashlett Road, turn right and follow road back to the starting point through the village centre.

 

All Saints Church Fawley, the oldest building in the area built in the 12th century and extended over the centuries, but has records of church activity in the Parish dating back to 971AD. In ‘The Square’ at Fawley there are buildings dating back to 1793, and Jubilee Hall was built in 1887 by public subscription to mark Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee.

Distance: 1.25km / 0.75 miles,  15 minutes
Condition: Good, mostly gravel tracks, unsurfaced paths may become muddy after heavy rain
Starting Point: Junction of Walkers Lane South and Green Lane

 

The route

  • Starting at the junction of Walkers Lane South and Green Lane go through the metal kissing gate leading on to Tom’s Down.
  • Continue ahead along gravel path. Take first left, through kissing gate and go straight on.
  • As the path opens out continue ahead with the pond to your right. Just before reaching the end of the pond take the path to the left and proceed into Newlands Copse.
  • Turn left and follow pavement to Walkers Lane North.
  • Turn left, cross Saxon Road and follow path adjacent to Blackfield Recreation Ground and back to the start.

Distance: 2km / 1.25 miles,  20 minutes
Condition: Good gravel tracks, may become muddy after a heavy rain

 

Starting Point: Kings Copse Road
This route can be accessed on foot from Holbury via Roughdown Lane or Blackfield via Kings Copse Road. If you will be driving please use the car park at Blackwell Common.

 

Home to birds of prey such as the Buzzard, Sparrow Hawk and Hobby and there are numerous Roe Deer to be seen. It is also home for very rare butterflies such as the Silver-Washed Fritillary and White Admiral.

 

The route

  • At the end of Kings Copse Road continue ahead, bearing left where the track splits into two passing Kings Copse House on your right.
  • Turn right at the next junction, continue ahead and through the gate entering Kings Copse Inclosure. Continue ahead and follow the track up the hill.
  • At the T-Junction turn right, then right again. Continue ahead to the gate.
  • Proceed through the gate and turn right, at the bottom of the hill bear left passing over a stream.
  • Continue ahead and at the wooden barrier about half way up the hill turn right. Follow the track straight ahead which will take you back to Kings Copse Road.
