QE2 Basketball Fence vandalised beyond repair. |
|
Blackfield residents are becoming more and more concerned about the increasing acts of vandalism occurring in their village.
Over the last few weeks, vandals have taken it upon themselves to damage the playing fields repeatedly in Blackfield.
They have, over a number of nights smashed a holes into the army hut, wrecked a fence around the basketball court, damaged football posts and broken play equipment in the area which is used by younger children, including a disabled swing.
A Fawley Parish Councillor remarked that, "I was amazed at the amount of vandalism that had been done in just one night."
He went on to say, "If only they realised that to repair the damage, money comes from the local ratepayers, which in turn means that their parents, through their taxes, foot the bill. Perhaps the young people doing this vandalism would think twice?"
At the annual parish meeting (held on Monday 18th April) it was suggested that the security team patrolling Gang Warily Recreation Centre could also regularly visit the playing fields in Blackfield. But this may obviously involve additional costs.
Following on from the recent reinstatement of the Solent Blueline Buses on the Heather Road estate, yet another Solent Blueline bus was targeted by person(s) unknown. Friday afternoon (22nd April) an object was hurled at the vehicle, smashing one of the downstairs windows. Luckily, the driver and passengers aboard were not injured, only having to put up with the inconvenience of having to return to Gang Warily to sort out the vehicle and for the passengers to travel on another bus.
Police are urging local residents to fill out a form anonymously, detailing such incidences so that a picture of the local antisocial hotspots within the parish can be built up.
You can find an antisocial form online (within this website) which you can fill in electronically or by visiting either your council offices at Gang Warily or Jubilee Hall or your local community centre or library.
If you need to contact the Police direct in an emergency you can dial 999 or alternatively call the Hampshire Constabulary on 0845 045 45 45
