Local produce in the New Forest was the order of the day
when two talented chefs whipped up a selection of mouth-watering
dishes for some of the district's top business people. Over 70 managers and owners of restaurants and hotels
packed into Carey's Manor in Brockenhurst on Monday (September
26) to enjoy lunch made entirely from fresh and seasonal
produce available in the New Forest.
The event, organised
by Forest Friendly Farming, gave producers and farmers
the chance to showcase their products and meet with members
of the local tourism industry.
Local chefs Paul Kavanagh and Steven Sweeting provided
entertainment with live cookery demonstrations, before
preparing the buffet lunch - a tempting range of organic
fruit and vegetables, award winning sausages, local cheeses,
fresh fish, homemade cakes, local ice cream, and sparkling
wines. Producers included Loosehanger Cheese, Ringwood
Mushrooms, The Butchers Gates, Sunnyfields Organic, S & J
Shellfish and Beaulieu wines.
The event was also an opportunity to celebrate the success
of the New Forest Marque - the brand that identifies high
quality food and drink produced in the New Forest.
Martyn Evans, local produce co-ordinator, said the event
will help promote local produce and local business. "This
was a wonderful opportunity for businesses in the New Forest
to find out about the range of quality produce available
on their doorstep," he said.
“These events are a useful way for local producers to raise awareness
of their products to one of their most important markets.” |
