Police in the New Forest are appealing for witnesses after a motorist knocked over and killed a New Forest pony at the weekend.

The incident occurred on the Beaulieu Road between Hilltop and the Heath roundabout just after 9pm on Saturday, April 22.

The driver of a turquoise coloured Daewoo hit the animal but made no attempt to stop and also failed to report the accident.  Instead, they just left the pony lying on the roadside in considerable pain.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the accident or knows of anyone with a damaged turquoise Daewoo to contact them.  They would also like to hear from anyone who may have carried out emergency repair work to a turquoise coloured Daewoo.

Information should be given by contacting PC Jamie Johnson at Hythe police station on 0845 045 45 45 or the anonymous Crimestoppers line 0800 555 111.
