| Dr Julian Lewis at the Calshot RNLI Open Day 2006 |
|
Calshot RNLI lifeboat station's open day held on Sunday 16 July 2006 was a great success raising £1,200.
The excellent weather helped make this year's open day a truly memorable visit for record numbers who of people who came to see how the RNLI’s only All Weather Lifeboat station in Hampshire provides sea rescue services in the Solent.
Highlights of the afternoon were the exciting water displays featuring the station’s all weather and inshore lifeboats, the Lee on Solent Coast Guard helicopter, the powerful escort tugs from the nearby Esso Fawley refinery and a ZAP cat, a small terrifically exciting racing boat.
'White knuckle' Rib rides up Southampton Water were a tremendously popular way of cooling off and getting a thrill at the same time. Amongst the visitors was local MP, Dr. Julian Lewis, who showed a great interest in the workings of the station and expressed his appreciation for the service Calshot RNLI provides in the local area.
Mr John Horton, Operations Manager for the Calshot station, said that the day had been a wonderful success and he thanked the organising team of fundraisers who support the RNLI, the crew, the various exhibitors and the Calshot Activities Centre who all contributed to raising such a good sum.
