Fawley village is currently without a Post Office after Kath Porter retired after running the service in the village for the last 45 years.

It was understood that there would be no service during the relocation which should of only taken a few days, but many elderly people are now having to catch a bus to nearby Blackfield to draw their pensions.

The Post Office claims that unforeseen technical problems with the phone system is to blame for the delay in opening the new service.

Douglas Eaglen, a Fawley resident said “All the work for new Post Office inside the Fawley Express shop has been done, but we don’t have a service, we are being told it is down to BT.”

Adding his concern Fawley's Hampshire County Councillor, Lee Dunsdon said "Post Office is the lifeblood of our village centres. It's crucial that Fawley gets its new post office opened as soon as possible to server the community.

A spokeswoman for Post Office Counters said "It's a problem related to the BT network and couldn't have been foreseen in planning the relocation.”

She continued to say "We are working closely with BT on the problem. The delay in opening is of great concern to us because it is inconveniencing our customers and we trust they will stay with us.” We are doing everything we can to open in the Fawley Express as soon as humanly possible."
