Police today named the motorcyclist who died when he was in collision with an articulated lorry within the Southampton Container Terminal on Wednesday, August 22.

He is Shannon Passingham, 30, of Smith Close, Fawley.

Since April, 2007, Mr Passingham worked as a container straddle crane operator at Southampton Container Terminal in Southampton Docks.

Before that, he worked as a driver.  He also did a small amount of voluntary work in various Hampshire bail hostels.

He shared a home with his long term partner and their five-year-old daughter. He was a rugby player and a keen fan of the sport.

Officers from Totton Roads Policing Unit are appealing for any witnesses to the collision in the dockyard at about 2.20pm.

Mr Passingham was riding his Suzuki 600cc Bandit motorcycle west along Western Avenue within the docks next to an ERF articulated lorry.  The lorry and motorcycle were in collision as the lorry turned right

The lorry driver, a 35-year-old man from Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, was arrested on suspicion of careless driving and bailed, pending further police inquiries.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Sergeant Andy Lynch at Totton Roads Policing Unit on 0845 045 45 45 or the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
