| The Empty Pocket being towed |
|
The launch of the Calshot RNLI All Weather Lifeboat ‘Sarah Emily Harrop’ last Sunday morning, 2 December, to search for a reportedly missing passenger from the Isle of Wight Red Funnel ferry was the 112th launch of an RNLI lifeboat from Calshot this year. 2007 is looking like it will be the busiest year on record for the station.
The ‘Sarah Emily Harrop’ had also launch on Friday 30 November to attend to a motor cruiser, the 'Empty Pocket' that had broken down off the mouth of the Hamble River. The small family boat with 5 people on board had managed to anchor but was being buffeted by rising gale force winds and an increasingly rough sea. After putting a crew member on board and establishing a line, the lifeboat towed the 'Empty Pocket' to Hamble.
With the increasing number of call outs at the station, the RNLI is always on the lookout for new prospective crew members. Anyone who lives or works near to Calshot and is interested in finding out more about being a member of the RNLI team should initially contact the station on 023 8089 3509. The RNLI can train a person from scratch, so previous sea going or boating experience, though useful, is not essential. |
