Police are appealing for witnesses after two women were assaulted by a man following a dangerous driving incident on the A326 and the A35 between 2 and 2.30pm on Thursday, December 27.

A woman in her forties was travelling northbound on the A326 towards the Applemore roundabout with her two daughters and three-year-old granddaughter, when she was cut up by another vehicle.

The vehicle then reduced its speed to 40mph in a 60mph zone. When the woman attempted to overtake she was cut up again and the vehicle drove in front of her straddling two lanes.

The woman was forced to pull over on the slip road to the A35. The driver of the other vehicle also pulled over and got out. He became aggressive and assaulted the woman and one of her daughters.

The woman driver sustained a black eye and her daughter was left with pain to her upper body and jaw.

The man is described as:

• White
• Stocky build
• Short grey hair
• Wearing glasses
• Approximately 5ft 10ins tall
• Driving a grey coloured estate vehicle, thought to be a 51 registration Renault Laguna

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, in particular a man who stopped and spoke to the women following the incident, causing the driver to leave the scene at speed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Constable Deborah Sargent at Hythe police station on 0845 045 45 45, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
