| Police in the New Forest carried out a test purchasing operation at local licensed premises on Friday, December 14.
Under close police supervision two 15-year-old youths attempted to purchase alcohol from seven shops and public houses in the New Forest.
Two premises failed the test purchase operation and were issued an £80 fixed penalty notice.
Sergeant Tim Adams of the Western Operational Command Unit Safer Streets Team said: “It is encouraging that the majority of premises targeted passed the test.
“However this acts as a reminder to licensed premises that test purchasing operations will be carried out at any time and without warning.
Licensees and staff should therefore always check the ID of those they suspect may be underage to ensure they operate their business responsibly.”
The two premises which failed the test purchase operation are:
• Blackfield Service Station
• Holbury Inn
The licensing team will be contacting the five premises which passed the test individually to congratulate them and ensure they continue with their good work.
Police also encourage parents not to supply alcohol to their children.
Anyone with information about premises which may be selling alcohol to those underage should contact the Safer Streets team on 0845 045 45 45, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
