The family of 16-year-old Sam Currey, who died in a moped collision early on Sunday morning, February 17, at Holbury, issued this statement on Tuesday, February 19:
“Our Sam was a handsome and friendly young man with a great smile and personality. “He was extremely popular with his peers, as has become evident by the numerous beautiful flowers, words and tributes left at the scene of his tragic accident and by the many young people who have shown up at all hours to pay their respects, say prayers and keep vigil.
“Since leaving school in 2007, Sam had worked with his dad, Darren, in his plastering business, becoming his workmate, soul mate and true mate, a wonderful bond,
“Sam came from a large and strong family structure, deeply loved by us all, and, in turn, he was never embarrassed to show affection to his family.
The words ‘I love you’ were commonplace and heartfelt always.
“Good humoured and funny, cheeky and cheerful, he was our sunshine at any time of the day. Sam’s warm and easy-going nature was also appreciated by neighbours and friends as shown by the many cards, letters and tokens of support we have received.
“Sam has left his large and grieving family with a hole too big to fill, but we would like to express our sincere thanks to the many who have contributed to the words and deeds of comfort and support at this our saddest time.
“How proud we are that he was ours, but for much too short a time.
“With love always and forever, mum Kerri, dad Darren, sister Lauren grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins.” |
