Police from the Totton Roads Policing Unit are investigating the death of a Fawley youth after his moped crashed into a telegraph pole at Holbury early Sunday morning, February 17.

Sam Currey, 16, of Heather Road, Fawley, left a friend’s house at 00.45am after helping with babysitting.

At about 00.49am, Sam apparently lost control of his Yamaha 50cc moped in Rollestone Road, near the junction of Hobson Way, Holbury.

He fell from his bike and died as a result of his injuries. He was pronounced dead at Southampton General Hospital.

Sam left Harley School last July and was training to be a plasterer with his father, Darren. He lived at home with his father, mother, Kerri; and sister, Lauren, 13.

Police are appealing to any witnesses who may have been in the area to ring the Totton Roads Policing Unit on 0845 045 45 45, quoting Operation Hamworthy.
