Paul Rapson was highly commended in Southampton's Art Gallery Open Exhibition with the theme 'The Art of Water'.
The competition was very stiff with nearly 700 entrants, there was just one winner and only 5 other pieces of work that the judges considered highly commendable.
His photograph titled Worship is causing much interest. One viewer was over heard telling a friend that she bet there was hours and hours of computer-work to produce such beautiful shapes.
Paul's image is a straight photograph with no electronic retouching at all and was produced by pouring quink ink into a tank of water. The more you look at his image the more your mind starts to see.
Pauls other accepted image 'Water Dance' is very different and did have hours of PhotoShop computer retouching. Both works are very unusual and thought provoking. Go and have a look at them at Southampton Art Gallery which is free to visit.
Southampton Art Gallery welcomes back the biannual open exhibition for local professional and amateur artists in the region. The vast majority of entrants came from 2D artists, there are also a few 3D exhibits on show.
The selection is made by a small jury and all acceptances are hung in the gallery space, resulting in a very eclectic and exciting exhibition.
