The Fawley Fun Day held at Gangwarily Recreation and Community Centre on Saturday, May 10 is being hailed a great success.
The event, organised by the Hythe Safer Neighbourhoods Team, raised more than £1500 for the Honeypot charity, which supports young carers and is based in the New Forest.
Over 1000 people attended throughout the day and enjoyed a bucking bronco, an ‘It’s a Knockout’ competition, and a number of stalls and displays providing free entertainment.
The displays were from Hampshire Constabulary, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, the Ministry of Defence police, the Army from McMullen barracks, Western Challenge, the New Forest East Regional Scout Movement and the Venturers Search and Sea Rescue.
The event also played host to a 12 -17-year-olds five-a-side football tournament featuring over 19 locally entered teams. At the end of a long day honours went to a local Youth Side, ‘The Black & Whites’, who completed all rounds to successfully claim the Fawley Cup and are officially the 2008 Cup winners.
Hythe Sector Inspector Kevin Leckey said: “The event was warmly received and embraced by the whole community who came out in their droves to support a fun packed day.
So successful was the event that there are already plans to organise another fun day next year, with a view to making this an annual event for the challenge of the Fawley Cup.”
