Charity run, St Francis Pre School, in Blackfield, have been given funding by Esso and ExxonMobil Chemical at Fawley Refinery in order to purchase ‘Astro Finger 21Keepers’ to protect pupils fingers from being caught in the doors of the building.
This contribution came about after Fawley Refinery employee, Charlie Von Landau and his wife, Barbara, who is involved with the pre-school, wanted to install safety devices to prevent children getting their fingers caught in the doors.
Karen Ward, Committee Chairperson of the pre-school explained that “the doors were very heavy and we wanted to fit them with soft closed hinges.
We had been trying for a number of months to obtain funding and had all but given up hope, the school is extremely grateful at the generosity of the Refinery and how quickly they responded to our request.”
Gisela Muns of Fawley Refinery Community Affairs said, “Safety is paramount at the Refinery and thus when we were informed of the situation at St Francis Pre- School, we thought it was an extremely worthy contribution to make.
Measures such as this are of the highest importance to us where children’s safety is concerned”.
These devices provide a barrier between the hinges of a door and the frame, a common place where children’s fingers can get caught. However they still allow the door to be opened and closed freely. |
