The Fawley Fun Day, held at Gang Warily recreation centre on Saturday, May 9, raised over £1300 to help local charities.
The money has been divided between local branches of the Red and White Leukaemia Appeal and Age Concern New Forest East.
This is the second year that the event has been organised for the Fawley community by Hythe Safer Neighbourhoods team, Fawley Parish Council, New Forest District Council, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and other local groups.
Activities included It’s A Knockout and displays from Hythe Dragons kick boxing; Hythe Air Cadets and Wessex Birds of Prey.
An array of Emergency Service vehicles were also at the event with Hampshire Fire and Rescue service demonstrating hose running and children were able to have their fingerprints taken by Hampshire Constabulary.
Local businesses sponsored the event and despite the current economic outlook they were very generous. Special thanks should be given to Exxon Mobil who is the event’s main corporate sponsor this year.
Hythe Sector Inspector Kevin Leckey said:
“Yet again this was a very popular event enjoyed by all, raising a great deal of money to make a difference to local people. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed.
“This is the second year this successful event has been held and I hope this will continue annually.” |
