A 58-year-old man from Fawley arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault on a woman at The Mill Pond, Holbury has been bailed pending further enquiries.

An investigation is into this incident, led by the Major Crime Department and supported by local officers, is ongoing.

Detectives continue to appeal for information in relation to this incident which took place just before 12pm on Wednesday, May 20.

New Forest District Chief Inspector Gary Cooper said: “This appears to be a random attack taken by an opportunist who took advantage of a vulnerable person. It is an unusual incident and women should not unnecessarily worry but should be aware of their personal safety and report anyone acting suspiciously.

“Safer Neighbourhoods officers will be conducting additional patrols in this area over the next few days and are available at Hythe police station should anyone living locally have any concerns or require advice.”
