Police are appealing for information after a car was set alight in Hedley Close Fawley, sometime between 1.50 and 2am on Tuesday, October 20.

A blue Ford KA, parked in the cul de sac, was set alight and completely burnt out.

PC Adrian Woodhead of Hythe Safer Neighbourhoods team said:

"We would appeal to anyone who may have information about those responsible to contact us.

"We have recently seen a rise in the number of arson incidents in the Fawley and Calshot areas. We are working closely with Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service to reduce these incidents occurring, by increasing police patrols and continuing education packages about the risks of starting fires."

Hampshire Fire and Recue Service (HFRS) said:

"We are committed to driving down the incidence of arson. Each occurrence, however minor, has the potential to wreck lives and is extremely costly financially.

HFRS will be sending crews out on high visibility patrols in order to engage with children and young people to help spread this message over the Halloween/bonfire night period."

Anyone with information about this incident should contact PC Woodhead at Hythe police station on 101, or call Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111. Callers from outside Hampshire and the Isle of Wight should dial 0845 045 45 45.
