Jane Austen’s best-loved heroine, Lizzie Bennet, comes to Exbury at the end of August, so that theatregoers can enjoy the drama of her love affair with Mr Darcy in an open-air production of Pride and Prejudice.
Chapterhouse Theatre Company’s acclaimed production brings the story of Elizabeth and her sisters vividly to life on Saturday 28 August, as visitors picnic under the stars in the beautiful surroundings of Exbury Gardens.
“Pride and Prejudice with its cast of vivid characters makes wonderful theatre,” said Charlotte de Rothschild, whose family owns Exbury. “This production will be an unforgettable summer’s evening entertainment.”
Children aren’t forgotten at Exbury this month with the chance to follow an absorbing trail leading to such curiosities as the Wiggly Tree, the Headache Tree, the Devil’s Walking Stick and the Jurassic Board Walk, where ancient plants, that once shared the earth with dinosaurs, grow.
Children who complete a simple quiz while following the trail may win tickets for the ever-popular Ghost Train or Santa Specials later in the year.
Visitors to Exbury this month may also enjoy a display by the New Forest Fuchsia Society (Saturday 14 and Sunday 15) and an exhibition of paintings by local artists.
Tickets for Pride and Prejudice can be bought by ringing Exbury box office on 023 8024 5750.
