“Lights, Camera, Entertainment” – what better way to celebrate Waterside Theatre Company’s 60th anniversary than by performing another fantastic show.

 

Formerly known as Esso Music and Drama Group, performances began in 1950 along with the opening of the new cinema in Holbury.

 

Over the years numerous plays, musicals and pantomimes have been staged, entertaining thousands of people and ensuring that live theatre can be enjoyed locally without breaking the bank!

 

The company currently boasts a membership of over 70 members, 6 of whom have been members for over 30 years and still actively participate in the group’s activities.

 

Our longest serving member is Arthur Whittaker, who was Chairman of the Company for many years and is also chairman of the Waterside Theatre Improvement Project, which has had huge success improving the acoustics, sound and ambiance of the theatre.

 

But the work does not stop there, as there are plans to improve the facilities further which will bring the Theatre up to contemporary technical and aesthetic standards.

 

Previous anniversaries for the group have looked back at what had been achieved over the years, but for this special occasion, producers Julia Allen and Claire Ferguson wanted to look towards the future.

 

“Lights, Camera, Entertainment” contains a wealth of talent. 

 

With an array of familiar faces, complemented by an influx of new members, this promises to be an event not to be missed.

 

There is swing music, the magic of the movies and a little bit of girl power containing an unexpected twist!

 

There are also sketches written by group members which will both delight and amuse - a WI fete, with melons and macramé, Diamond Lil’s saloon enticing the cowboys to strut their boots with some line dancing, a linking duo to ensure a seamless performance and even some dancing toys.....all with a hint of diamonds!!
