Police are appealing for anyone who was drinking in the Langley Tavern, Langley, Fawley, on New Year’s Eve to contact them.
Officers are investigating an altercation that led to a man receiving serious head injuries, including a suspected fractured cheekbone and damaged eye socket that required treatment at Southampton General Hospital.
The incident is thought to have occurred on the dance floor in the pub sometime between 10.30 and 10.45pm.
The pub was very busy at the time and although officers have spoken to a few people, there are many more who were there who are likely to have seen or heard something that will enable officers to establish exactly what happened.
Detective Constable Chris Bradford said: “We are trying to establish the circumstances that led to this man being injured and who might be responsible. A lot of people in the pub that evening would have seen or heard something that may have triggered the altercation and it is vitally important that we speak to those people to get their account. We therefore urge anyone who was there and feels that they may have information that will assist us, no matter how insignificant they feel it might be, to contact us without delay.”
Information should be given by contacting the CID office at Lyndhurst police station on 101 or anonymously on the Crimestoppers charity line, 0800 555 111.
