Learn to use pastels at Exbury

Listen Now

Pastel flowers A rare chance for artists to explore the use of pastels is offered at Exbury Gardens this weekend, when acclaimed artist Helen Simpson runs a one-day course.

Helen, whose work is currently showing in the New Forest Gardens’ Five Arrows Gallery, will use music, poetry and her own paintings to provide inspiration.

Students will be able to work directly from flowers and other material growing in the Gardens.

“The course is designed for artists at all levels,” said Helen. “We will look at how to create a piece of work based on flowers – or simply on imagination.”

Students are asked to bring pastels (not oil pastels), sugar or pastel paper (in neutral colours but not white), a drawing board and fixative.

The course, which runs from 10.30-4pm on Saturday (July 24) costs £55 with materials or £45 for those who bring their own.

Booking should be made at Exbury on 023 8024 5750.
