Since 29th January 2007 Hythe police now have a new team headed by Inspector John Kenna and supervised by Sgt Kev Gillespie.
The safer Neighbourhood teams’ function is to target and deal with neighbourhood nuisance, community hot spots and issues which affect quality of life in our area.
This is in addition to the 24hr targeted Patrol team based at Hythe which will deal with calls to police in relation to specific incidents.
The team is split that there are police officers dedicated to each parish in the Hythe police area. These officers are:
- PC Elliot Campbell covering Marchwood and rural parishes.
- PC Chris Barrow, PC Martyn Hughes and PC Andy Smith covering the Hythe Parish area.
- PC Adrian Woodhead, PC Mick Wellsteed and PC Garvin Hughes, covering the Fawley Parish area.
Our aim is to conduct high visibility patrolling in Hot Spot areas, the use of acceptable behaviour contracts and anti social behaviour orders to deal with nuisance individuals and combating drug dealing in the area by use of community intelligence and warrants.
We have had several successes in the area since the formation of Safer Neighbourhoods, on the 29th January 2007
An address was searched and an individual arrested for possession and cultivation of Cannabis on our first day in the Heather Rd area
In Calshot several individuals have come to notice and agreed to accept ABC’s in relation to juvenile nuisance and criminal, with offenders being issued with a fixed penalty notice reported for a reprimand.
It is important to state that anti social and criminal behaviour will not be tolerated and positive action will be taken which can be in many forms from letters home to parents to arrest and prosecution. Any one who is found committing offences can now be issued with £80 fixed penalty notices or arrested and prosecuted where appropriate.
Holbury Drove precinct is currently being subjected to unacceptable levels of juvenile nuisance and underage drinking as such we have put in place increased patrols to deal with this over the school half term and any person who is committing offences in this area will be robustly dealt.
It is my aim to produce a news letter updating the community each fortnight with the next newsletter being around 28/02/07.
