Unfortunately there has been a spate of vehicle crime in the Holbury area over the last fortnight (and in Hythe area too) where motor bikes and older cars are being targeted over night.
These vehicles are then burnt out in forest areas or opposite Netley View in the Hardley Lane area.
To target this Hythe police officers from all teams have been working changed duty times and overtime to target and arrest the offenders and to reduce vehicle crime opportunities.
Though this hasn’t yet resulted in arrests it has reduced the number of vehicles stolen with suspects being stop and searched to interfere with their activities.
Now for some good news, as part of our efforts to deal with anti social behaviour and to reassure the community Hythe Safer Neighbourhood team have been actively patrolling on foot and in vehicles concentrating in the Holbury Precinct area,
Calshot Beach and Tristan Close, as well as Fawley Village Centre for the last month. This has resulted in over 100 containers of alcohol being seized and poured away from youths as well as a number of letters home to parents of youths acting inappropriately in the area.
As a result we have noticed a reduction in the number of calls to police, incidents of damage and improved behaviour of youths in general.
This Hi Visibility patrolling will continue especially on foot where we now have the time to regularly spend up to 2 hours at a time patrolling on foot in our community.
Hythe Safer Neighbourhood team would also like to thank the assistance and positive co operation of the local parish council and Hardley School in assisting police in our goal to improve the area.
Last week Fawley Parish council opened a youth shelter opposite Gangwarily to give the youths of the area a location to relax and meet.
These locations assist everyone by diverting youths from residential areas and shopping precincts to a more appropriate location.
Arrangements are being made to set up a Calshot Beach hut watch, to assist and empower the owners so that the unacceptable behaviour of some individuals towards others property is dealt with effectively.
On this matter one youth whose behaviour was identified as an issue of concern has now been signed up to an acceptable behaviour contract with conditions not to enter Calshot as part of an organised event.
