Apologies for the delay in this bulletin, which is due to my being away from the station.

I will be looking to but a simple chart showing crimes which have occurred on this and future bulletins for information purposes.

It will be important not to look too deeply at the figures, as they don’t show the whole picture but are good for highlighting trends.

I have split them into Hardley-Holbury and Fawley, Blackfield, Calshot, Langley and Lepe.

I am please to note that since the last bulletin there have been improvements in the number of vehicles being subject to crime and that criminal damage and nuisance issues at Calshot have reduced greatly (one offender was reported for swearing in the street).

These figures show that Fawley Parish is a very safe place to live indeed with the vast majority of reported incidents being Rowdy and inconsiderate issues relating to youths in public places.

Hot Spots which have been identified are as follows Gangwarily, Old School Close, and Holbury Shopping precinct.

The Safer neighbourhood team at Hythe will be looking to target these areas and work with other agencies including social housing,to improve the situation (which for families causing problems may lead to eviction).

However it is important to realise that the vast majority of our youths are decent law abiding people and that though they may sometimes be in large groups and noisy this on its own isn’t an offence (especially when they are in play areas), when police deal with youths who are causing problems or drinking underage then this is dealt with by means of letters home to parents or if required a prosecution.

At this time the team are looking at areas in the community were youths gather and friction occurs with the community (i.e. shopping precincts) in order to see what measures can be put in place to improve the quality of life for all persons.

One issue which is clearly causing concern in the community is that of anti social use of motor cycles, in the last 3 tours of duty I have dealt with 3 incidents which will lead to the offender being reported for summons for driving offences and warned so that in future their motor cycles can be seized.

The vast majority of offenders are teenage boys who keep their motorcycles at home, it is important that parents realise that this isn’t a harmless activity and that a motorcycle in untrained hands used illegally could result in serious injury or death to their child or another person and WILL result in a police prosecution.

Finally though the incidents of theft and burglary in the area are very low indeed each and every crime has an effect on the individual and Hythe police are committed to reducing these levels further.

In relation to protecting your home from thieves simple measures such as having low borders at the front of the house so criminals will be open to view and tall borders at the rear to prevent easy access (thorny shrubs are great for this).

Keep all windows and doors locked and shut when you are not present, and never leave valuables on display to tempt thieves, these may seem obvious measures but are easy to forget in the busy world of today, however as most crimes are of an opportunist nature it is vital not to give them any oversight to exploit.

Criminals will not like attention being drawn to themselves so having lights activated by movement sensors is a very good and inexpensive deterrent.

Any person who wishes to obtain leaflets on crime prevention advice is welcome to attend Hythe police station were there is a selection of useful leaflets and other handouts.
