Welcome to this latest parish newsletter, during the last few weeks Hythe police have been stepping up patrols to deal proactively with anti social behaviour which has meant that there have been extra officers on the street in the evenings at weekends.
However we have found the area to be very quiet and in general well behaved.
Where offences have been identified robust action has been taken with persons arrested and charged.
The result of this is that the extra patrols over the last week end arrested 3 persons for damage, disqualified driving and drink driving.
All areas of concern were checked regularly for nuisance/anti social behaviour but with no offences or nuisance found.
The nuisance calls reported can be deceptive as often the reported problem can be an entirely legal activity such as youths playing football or skateboarding in places provided for these activities.
Where this is the case advice is given to all parties in order to reduce the misunderstandings and improve the situation.
One such example of this has been to get youths to reposition their goal mouth on a play area so there ball didn’t go towards houses which has solved the specific to this location.
It has been quite a quiet fortnight for reported crime with the majority of offences being theft of unattended items left in a public place or by persons invited in to the premises.
It is vital that we all do our bit to prevent crime by making sure that we don’t leave property unattended out of the theft incidents 4 were cycles left unlocked in a public place, one was a mobile phone left at work, one was money taken by persons at a house party and another was theft from a vehicle, these incidents could have been reduced if cycles had been locked and valuables not left on display unattended.
The assault figures are very good as well with 2 of the 3 assaults resulting in the offender being arrested and prosecuted the last assault was a drunk who refused to assist police. In all cases there were no serious injuries.
Some more good news on crime is that of the 2 dwelling burglaries 2 persons have been arrested and charged regarding a break to one address and in the other case a suspect has been identified and efforts are being made to progress this crime.
Calshot beach though a peaceful place is unfortunately having damage caused to beach huts still by persons unknown, this has resulted in 2 beach huts being reported as damaged and the theft of flooring from a third beach hut.
Police are still patrolling in the area and arrested one person for a drink driving offence unfortunately persons who cause damage are very difficult to catch with out an eye witness so if you do see anyone acting suspiciously please contact police straight away on 999 and bear in mind your own safety it is usually better to stand off and get good descriptions of persons so we can start looking as this is safer and will better assist in the investigation.
If you come across damage with no persons around then please report it on the 101 line so that we can build up a pattern of the incidents and look to place officers there at the most appropriate times.
Finally we can welcome back PC Wellsteed from his stint covering over at Lymington police station and from October there will be a 4th PCSO for the Hythe area which will assist in our providing high visibility patrolling for deterrence and reassurance.
If you have any information then you can pass this confidentially to any police officer or contact Hythe SNT on 0845 045 45 45, Hythe police are actively looking for good actionable intelligence on drug dealing, vehicle crime and theft issues so if you have heard or know something which will assist the police and make our neighbourhood safer please let us know and we will target the criminals and bring them to justice.
