Hello
Apologies for the delay in posting out this latest fortnightly update on Fawley Parish police incidents.
This has been due to increased patrolling and operational activity in relation to the murder at Fawley and Halloween patrols.
Sadly, though a safe area, an seaman from Goa has been murdered in Fawley and another seaman assaulted.
If any person has information to assist police on this matter then please contact Hampshire Constabulary on 0845 045 45 45 quoting operation Razvan.
Fawley is still a very safe area to live in, however there is obviously an issue with youths being provided with alcohol and then committing crime.
This is a small minority of youths in our area and it is important that we don’t isolate an entire group of society for the actions of a few. However Hythe police are taking (and have always taken) this matter very seriously and are dealing robustly when incidents are encountered or reported.
Ways in which we will be dealing with youths congregating and causing problems with alcohol is using a new piece of legislation which empowers a constable to direct a person over 16 years of age to leave an area by a designated route and not to return for 48 hours if there disorder or crime fuelled by alcohol has occurred or is likelihood that such incidents are going to occur.
Licensed premises are being checked to ensure that they aren’t selling alcohol to persons under18 years, and if any person is found to be selling alcohol to youths then a fine, court appearance and loss of licence to sell alcohol can be imposed.
However, the main issue is youths being allowed to roam the streets by parents who are failing in their responsibility to parent their children and in quite a few cases providing them with alcohol.
This is unacceptable and will result in police action and the potential for social services involvement.
As a safer neighbourhoods team, we work closely with housing, education and social services. There are a number of families who are currently on contracts due to issues such as the ones mentioned above and in recent weeks one family has been served a notice of intention to evict due to the anti social behaviour of their son.
There is some good news to pass on and that is that the policing team has been increased in strength by the attachment of PC Matt Tasker to the Hythe SNT team and the joining of a new police community support officer Andrew Spooner. We are now also in possession of police cycles now.
This allows us to be “quietly mobile” and get to places which we wouldn’t be able to normally, quickly and effectively.
Two incidents have been dealt with successfully - one was the theft of a moped in the Dark Lane area where 2 youths were arrested at the scene and 2 more are to be arrested in near future after being identified as involved.
The second incident was being able to interfere with local criminal activity involving drugs due to having the element of surprise on street.
We hope to achieve more success with cycle patrols so please ensure that it isn’t your children we arrest. Parents can do this by ensuring that they know where their children are at all times, an appropriate time to be in is enforced and substance abuse whether alcohol or drugs is not allowed and the dangers discussed at home.
If a parent has any concerns then please bring them to the attention of the appropriate authority for help and assistance whether this be the police, medical education or social services.
We are currently experiencing a spate of offences in the Calshot area against beach huts where youths are damaging the buildings.
Extra police resources are going to be put against this issue with robust action taken against all persons committing offences, no matter how minor.
