Hello
Unfortunately this last fortnight has seen a sudden increase in crime especially towards vehicles and beach huts.
Taking these items out of the pattern other serious crime is very low with the main problem being nuisance behaviour by youths and vehicles.
In order to deal with the spate in crime on Calshot beach and overnight towards vehicles and sheds, police have changed duty patterns to ensure that officers are working effectively during the times when crime is most prevalent.
In addition, officers now also patrol on cycles to be able to cover ground effectively and quietly. This resulted in 2 youths being arrested for theft of a moped in the Fawley area and another 2 who ran off, having to attend a police station after the event.
Hampshire police currently operate a trap car scheme where a vehicle is placed out in a high crime area and monitored. This has led to an increase in arrests and decrease in car crime in other areas.
Evidence has been gathered against youths causing damage to beach huts and breaking into beach huts with arrests to be made in the near future against identified youths.
Ron Smith, the crime reduction officer is also writing to all beach hut owners offering crime prevention advice, as clearly, the more difficult we make it for youths to steal or damage property, the better it will be for residents and police.
Please do mark up property so that it can be identified, we are currently forensically examining property from burglaries to beach huts and need to prove the item is stolen and where it came from. This is a very difficult task if the crime isn’t reported or property is unidentifiable.
3 persons were arrested in Holbury for theft and going equipped offences which are still being progressed so though crime has gone up unacceptably, offenders are being targeted and arrested.
On the brighter side, we now have an extra member of staff for the Fawley Parish: PCSO Andrew Spooner, who will be out and about on patrol to enforce the peace and deter crime. At this time PCSO Hayes is making good progress with establishing a neighbour hood watch scheme in the area and if any person wishes to have more information on this matter then Bev can be contacted at Hythe police station for more information on 0845 045 45 45.
Currently we are in the process of opposing late night extensions to public houses in the Fawley parish due to the increase in noise in residential areas, associated drunkenness and disorder, which is anticipated if extended drinking hours are permitted in our area.
If any person has any views, concerns or issues with pubs in our area opening longer then I can be contacted at Hythe police station to take any information you may have.
To reassure the public, Hythe police were the top police station in the Western Hampshire area last month for the detection of crime, exceeding expectations by a wide margin.
The increase in crime reporting this fortnight also included quite a few persons arrested, charged or cautioned for drink driving drug driving or possession of cannabis.
As a final note, one youth has been arrested interviewed and further charged with offences relating to theft burglary and other crimes in the Holbury area as of the writing of this bulletin on 13/11/07.
If any person has intelligence or information to assist police in targeting criminals then please call Hythe Safer neighbourhood team on 0845 045 45 45 or call crime stoppers anonymously, all information is treated confidentially.
