Hello
This news letter shows that crime and anti social behaviour in our area is still very low and on a positive side Hythe police have a good record of solving and detecting crimes. As the reported crimes above show, Fawley Parish remains one of the safest areas in the United Kingdom to live.
Last week PC BARROW organised an anti terrorist reassurance patrol involving around 25 police officers in the Waterside area.
The purpose of this operation was to provide public reassurance through high-visibilty policing at key locations and to act as a deterrent to those who engage in criminal activity.
Officers conducted stop checks in Holbury and Marchwood throughout the day, the result of which led to two people being arrested and a house searched in relation to cultivation of cannabis, and several vehicles were seized for having no insurance.
Minor traffic violations discovered during the operation were dealt with by informal advice so not as to detract from the purpose of the operation.
These operations are conducted on a regular basis and form part of Hampshire Constabulary’s strategy to protect the public and deal effectively and proportionately with crime and terrorism.
In Calshot police are working with the local council to try and improve the social aspects of the area and provide opportunities for local people, this is ongoing with regular meetings involving local councillors including Councillor Kate Lord who is the representative from the Parish Council dealing with problems caused by youths in the Fawley area.
A youth from the Calshot area is currently on bail to appear in court for sentencing in the New Year after pleading guilty to 23 offences.
In the last fortnight there has been a continuation of the extra patrols to deal with any anti social behaviour, however I am pleased to say that with the exception of a few minor exceptions, it has been a very quiet period with no problems identified or reported.
I have been cycling around the parish now for the past month and have found the youths of our parish to be well behaved, sober and not causing issues. However as a result of this patrolling, I have come across several incidents of anti social behaviour by adults including fly tipping (which earned the offender a £50 fine).
Officers at Hythe will be putting in a lot of high visibility patrols in the run up to Christmas and will be taking a zero tolerance to any drunkenness or anti social behaviour which will result in fixed penalty fines or a court appearance.
The majority of the rowdy and inconsiderate behaviour issues are of a low level and are being dealt with by intervention with other agencies such as housing authorities.
Brian Byrne the anti social behaviour officer for New Forest District council is also targeting youths who are offending or likely to be causing anti social behaviour.
He will be putting measures in place to prevent further offending and to improve the prospects for the youths involved, who often don’t realise the effect their actions (which may be as simple as playing football in the wrong area) have.
Brian has recently had his hand strengthened by the recruitment of another officer to work with him. In the last week, three Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABCs), have been submitted to deal with problematic youths.
These contracts are generally successful in reducing problems and improving the behaviour of those receiving them.
With Internet shopping becoming more popular and Christmas and New Year almost upon us, it is very important when purchasing items over the internet that simple security precautions are taken.
- Always make sure that the website you are on is an official site.
- Always check to make sure when giving credit card details electronically that the web page is encrypted and is secure (usually identified by a yellow padlock logo and has https at the start of the website address).
- Never give out passwords or PIN numbers as these will not be required by any honest or official website traders.
- Don’t respond to phishing emails and check the originating address of the sender, often it will be headed ebay or such like but on closer inspection is clearly not.
- Use providers that you know and trust as these will be more reliable and generally offer greater protection to you.
If any person has intelligence or information to assist police in targeting criminals, please call the Hythe Safer Neighbourhoods team on 0845 045 45 45 or call crime stoppers anonymously, all information is treated confidentially.
We are particularly interested in any information regarding the supply of all types of drugs, theft of scrap metal, uninsured vehicles, drunk and disqualified drivers, and of course anyone committing burglaries.
And finally, everyone at Hythe police station wishes you a happy and crime free Christmas.
