How can I make use of RSS?
In general you need to get hold of a program called a News Reader (see the list of FREE readers in the right panel). The News Reader displays RSS information feeds from your chosen websites on your computer.
All you then have to do is choose which RSS feeds you want. (see below)
How do I get a News Reader?
There are a range of different News Readers available. Different News Readers work on different operating systems, for example Windows, Macintosh and Linux so you will need to take this into account when you make your choice.
How can I sign up to use RSS feeds?
Go to your favourite web sites and look for the XML logo or feed. Right click with your mouse, on the link that says “XML Feed” when the menu comes up click on "Copy Shortcut". You will then need to follow the instructions for your particular News Reader in order to add the XML feeds to your RSS list.
NET framework for Windows users.
If you have never run a News Reader before on your system, that is not running Windows 2003 or the latest Windows XP version and never installed the free Microsoft .NET framework (What is Microsoft .NET framework?) you first need to download and install it.
The easiest way is to run Windows update or otherwise visit Microsoft - How to Get the .NET Framework 1.1. |
