Applemore College Photographer wins Young Farmers Competition

Grace Wappet-Madden, a Year 9 GCSE photography student from Applemore College, has won First Prize in the Hampshire Junior Young Farmers Photography Competition.

Grace, who has been attending weekly meetings of Young Farmers at the Beaulieu Out of Town Centre for the last year, entered her photo into the Hampshire Young Farmers Summer Competitions Day held at Sparsholt Countryside Day on 16th May 2015.

The theme for the competition was ‘Family’.

Grace says she took many photos of the goats and pigs on the farm at the Out of Town Centre, but when she saw the photo she had taken of the sheep she knew this was a winner, ‘they had just lambed, and they were jumping about and happy.

They were just like a big family.’

Grace has also been awarded the Best Junior Girl 2014 Cup for her participation and contribution to Beaulieu Young Farmers.

She is very involved in all the Young Farmers’ activities – going to different farms and shows and stock judging competitions.

She explains that she likes the atmosphere at Young Farmers ‘because everyone doesn’t always know everything, so we’re always learning.

We have a good laugh and I’ve made some good friends.’

Grace enjoys Stock Judging particularly, where farm animals are compared to the ideal for their type and breed (e.g. dairy or beef cows) and will be representing Hampshire Young Farmers with four others members from Beaulieu in stock judging at the South of England Show (11th – 13th June).
